Creation Station New Year, New To Me!

Happy New Year!  It's 2022 and I am ready to say goodbye to 2021 in a major way, and embrace all things new. :)  The Creation Station Design Team blog hop theme this month is to highlight something New To You, and I decided to share a project I made with the new Rainbow Of Happiness Stamp Set and coordinating Sunshine and Rainbows DSP.

Although this stamp set also comes with coordinating Brilliant Rainbow Dies, I actually used only the matching Sunshine and Rainbows Designer Series Paper and fussy cutting.

This fun fold was one that I shared at my Surprise Saturday mystery card event a few weeks ago.  I'd love it if you would consider joining our group for this free virtual gathering!  We meet each Saturday at 11AM EST and make a mystery card using whatever products you have on hand.  My favourite part is at the end when everyone shares what they made--it is amazing to see how different each project looks with different colours and themes!  You can join us or learn more by clicking here.

This easel card stands all on its own, so it can be displayed nicely on a shelf by the recipient.  I started with a Thick Basic White top-folding card base, cut to 4.25" x 11" and scored at 5.5" and 8.25".  Fold along the score lines to create a mountain/valley fold, or Z-shape.

The second base is another piece of Thick Basic White cut to 3.5" x 9", scored at 4.5".  This will be adhered to the first card base after it is decorated, with the flap folded down and tucked into the "easel" piece.

The Sunshine and Rainbows DSP that coordinates with this set is so bright and cheerful I knew I would adore it!  After what seems like months and months of holiday projects it was so nice to create with something completely different.  And playing with rainbow colours can't help but raise your spirits!

I layered a piece of the thin-striped rainbow paper (4" x 5.25") on a piece of Magenta Madness card stock, leaving a thin border of the white card base visible.  On the "flaps" of the big card base, I layered the thick-striped rainbow DSP on Granny Apple Green cardstock.

The easel is created by fussy cutting a cloud from a piece of DSP.  I first adhered the cloud to a piece of Basic White cardstock and then fussy cut around the cloud....this gives the cloud a bit more stability than just the piece of paper.  It's popped onto the centre front of the base with dimensionals, so the smaller card base flap can tuck in behind it--make sure to put the dimensionals just across the bottom of the cloud, so there is room for the flap to slide in behind it.

The main decorative part of the card is actually the front of the smaller base.  For this I used one of the DSP patterns that was bright and sunny, and layered it onto a piece of Mango Melody Cardstock.  I fussy cut a rainbow from the DSP, and still have plenty to use for future cards too! I stamped my sentiment in Versamark Ink on Basic Black Cardstock and then heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder.  I fussy cut around each word and added each piece to my rainbow with dimensionals.

For the inside of the smaller card base I layered a piece of Basic White cardstock onto a Pool Party cardstock panel, and then adhered it to the base.  I fussy cut a partial cloud from the DSP (use every piece!) and a rainbow, and added them to the bottom right corner to decorate the "inside" of the card.  The sentiment is included in the Rainbow of Happiness Set and was stamped in Black Memento Ink.

As a special surprise, I turned the card into a gift card holder too!  I added one more strip of the thick rainbow DSP to the bottom of the top flap of the second card base, adhering it just on the two sides and the bottom.  A gift card slides nicely into place in the little pocket this forms.

I used a strong adhesive (Tear and Tape) to apply the second base to the main base, making sure that the top flap fits within the easel mechanism.  This allows the card to be free standing and become a display piece during these gloomy winter days as well.

Thank you so much for popping by my blog today!  If you enjoyed my project I would love to hear from you in the comments below.  Next up is Martin Stone at Martin's Mayhem in the UK, hop on over to see what great project he has for you today!

Happy Crafting,
Barb
