Creation Station Heat Embossing Blog Hop

It's time for another Creation Station Blog Hop and this month we're sharing projects with one of my favourite techniques--heat embossing.  The magic of this melting powder was the "wow" that turned me onto card making when I first started out almost 20 years ago.  I just had to know how that was done!  And it continues to be a go-to for me now.  There are a lot of different outcomes you can achieve with heat embossing, but one of my favourites these days is white embossing with shading from Blends markers.

I found this fun fold design on Mitosu Crafts page, and really wanted to give it a try, with a little tweak of my own.  The base of my card is 5.5" x 8." in Wild Wheat Cardstock, scored on the long side at 4", and then 1/8" trimmed off the front.  The easel is formed from a piece of 4" x 8" Poetic Expressions DSP, scored on the long side at 4", 5", 6", 6.75", and 7.5".

The DSP is folded along the score line in a valley/mountain/valley/mountain/mountain pattern, and then the small final section is glued back onto itself, just to add some additional weight to the DSP.  

I stamped the large floral image from the Enduring Beauty Stamp Set in White Craft Ink, and then sprinkled it with White Embossing Powder.  This really provides a vibrant white colour to the imagery.  To add depth, I used my Dark Wild Wheat Blends marker to place "shadows" within the stamped image, as well as all around the outside. 

My next step was to die cut a window from the centre front of the cardstock base.  I used the Everyday Details Dies to cut a rectangle from the centre, and also to cut a smaller white rectangle with the dotted borders.  I saved the Wild Wheat die cut to use for the back of my card.

I stamped my sentiment in Wild Wheat Ink on a scrap of Basic White Cardstock, and die cut it with the pierced rectangle die from the Enduring Beauty Dies.  I also die cut some flowers and leaves from that die set in Wild Wheat and Basic White.

I layered my white rectangles together with Dimensionals, adding the decorative leaves and florals behind both pieces.  I then glued my sentiment piece into the window opening of the card base with glue just on the tips of the decorative leaves, so it appears to be floating in the open space.

The DSP is glued to the inside of the card base, and makes such a pretty backdrop for the open window.  I changed up the cased design by gluing my card base to the front of the DSP, rather than making it a true easel card.  This was a last minute decision, as I didn't want to hide any of that gorgeous heat embossing!

The back of the card base leaves lots of room for a message to the recipient.  I glued a panel of Basic White Cardstock to the back, and added the die cut that was formed when creating the window as decoration.  I love that the piece includes all of that heat embossing, so none goes to waste.
