Piece of Cake (Blog Hop)

Well here we are, halfway through January already.  How does this happen?!

The new Occasions catalogue went live January 2 and I have had a ton of fun creating projects with the new Piece of Cake stamp set and matching punch.  If you follow me on Instagram (@justBstamping) you will have seen a couple of my more...elaborate...cards (and if you aren't following me, join the fun!).  So for the blog hop I choose to feature a much simpler, yet still beautiful, alternative.

Petal Pink is probably my favourite new colour, and I particularly like it for romantic cards.  This card really shows how a piece of gorgeous DSP (Designer Series Paper) can make a card all on its own.  Isn't that handwritten look neat?

I stamped the cake and stand in Black Momento ink and coloured them with my blends.  I really like the look of shading using the light Pool Party blend, to help give white areas a little depth too.

I embossed a stitched circle of vellum to give it a little texture, and layered that onto a white circle popped up with dimensionals, to help it stand out from the DSP.  I added some Smoky Slate ribbon and offset the circle to the right, slicing the "overhang" into a straight line.

I didn't include a sentiment because of the handwriting on the DSP, but I could easily add one to specifically note the occasion later.

The inside of my card is also quite simple--a lovely sentiment (good for a wedding, anniversary, or shower), added a little strip of the DSP, and stamped a very light Pool Party flower over the sentiment.

Here are the two cards I posted on Instagram last week--much more involved, but so much fun to play with colour!

That's it for me, but don't forget to hop over to these other great blogs to see what these creative minds have for you this month!
